What does treatment look like?
As a trained Dialectical Behavioral Therapist, I incorporate DBT skills into a majority of therapy I offer. DBT informed therapy utilizes the four components of emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness and mindfulness. DBT is a more structured form of talk therapy to address and change unwanted emotions and behaviors in a collaborative way.

What is DBT-Informed Treatment ?
Although DBT was initially created by Dr. Marsha Linehan to address borderline personality disorders, self harm and suicidality, it has been found through comprehensive research that DBT is helpful for a wide range of mental health conditions.
When we talk about DBT-informed therapy, we're referring to a flexible approach that draws on many core elements of the full DBT model—without using every component. This method is structured, skill-based, and more focused than traditional talk therapy.
We often use DBT-informed therapy to help clients manage emotional dysregulation that leads to impulsive behaviors or challenges in relationships—especially when those issues are significant but don’t require the intensity of a full DBT program. Or, we might take a DBT-informed approach with a client who completed a comprehensive DBT program in the past and would like to resume work with a DBT-knowledgeable therapist.
A typical DBT-informed session might include:
Setting a clear agenda and following a treatment hierarchy
Using diary cards or tracking behaviors
Practicing skills between sessions through targeted assignments
